April 2013. Saara's play skirt. This is one of the 'green' projects again. I used my husbands old polo shirt to make a play skirt for Saara. I was positively surprised how easy and fast this simple garment was to make. As my husband has a few more old shirts laying around, there will be more play skirts coming.
This is all I needed, plus my sewing machine and thread. (I used 1/2 " wide elastic band)

I cut the bottom part off the shirt right under the sleeves.

Then I turned the cut edge down to form a cozy canal for the elastic band. I stitched it close to the turned edge, leaving an opening for the band. Measured my girl's waist for the correct length of the band and inserted it into the canal. After securing the ends of the elastic band, I stitched the opening closed.

As the bottom hem was not even, I turned the longer edge up to even out the hem.
And - voila! - she is already outside playing in her new skirt! From one of the sleeves of the shirt I cut out a few circles and folded them into a clustered flower.
